Why Study at The University of Akron ?

The undergraduate program in the Department of Physics at the University of Akron is designed to prepare students for both theoretical and experimental work. All faculty are actively engaged in research, publishing frequently, and are well-suited to help students gain valuable experience by applying the concepts learned in the classroom to practical research problems. All students are strongly encouraged to become involved in research under guidance of the faculty. Early research involvement frequently leads to discoveries and/or results acceptable for scientific publication. A list of student co-authored papers is available here.
Our graduate program in is one of a few programs offering the M.S. in Physics as the highest degree, and it is likewise rare in that it concentrates on preparing students for scientific research.

Masters students are strongly encouraged to begin research no later than their second semester. The primary goal of the faculty is to help place all graduates, at either the B.S. or M.S. level, in challenging and well-paying jobs, or, if the student chooses, a good doctoral program.
