Tentative List of Topics to be covered (may be adjusted during the term):

Please suggest topics of interest to you to be covered during the last two weeks of this semester

Please remember to select a topic for your presentation and discuss it with me by the end of October.

Suggested topics (your choice is NOT confined to this list):

o       α-decay as an example for tunneling (see Schwabl 3.3.3 for an introduction)

o       Resonances in one-dimensional scattering (see Schwabl 3.7 for an introduction)

o       Quantum dots as artificial atoms

o       Energy-time uncertainty (Schwabl 4.2) and its implications in spectroscopy

o       Continuous symmetries and conservation laws (see handout as a starting point)

o       Potential energy surfaces in molecules; chemical reactions from QM prospective

o       Relativistic effects in heavy atoms; spin-orbit coupling (see Schwabl Ch.12 for an introduction)
